Chloe Ting 2022 Summer Weight Loss Challenge
Goal
The goal was to be 100% consistent while doing the Chloe Ting 2022 Summer weight loss challenge. This is a 28 day challenge however it was done over 30 days to add to flexibility. I had to complete all the workouts and send a picture as proof to my accountability buddy as well as log my progress in the app HabitShare. The person who was the most consistent would win a price of their choice that the loser would purchase. If both were equally consistent then both would get the reward. My reward was a plant. The journey is documented on my YouTube channel.
Reason
I decided on this challenge for the following reasons:
- Loss weight
- Get into the habit of exercising regularly
- Improve cardio vascular fitness
- Get a bit stronger
- Improved mental health
Desired Outcome
The desired outcome was to achieve 100% consistency however I would be more than happy to just beat my accountability partner.
I wanted to complete every workout video while being lenient with rest timers during the first 2 weeks and then being more strict in the last two weeks.
I wanted to improve my overall strength while improving my cardio vascular fitness at the same time.
I choose this challenge specifically because i also wanted to loose weight without changing my diet.
I hoped that doing this challenge would help me to exercise consistently even after the challenge was done.
Weekly Observation
Week 1
The first week went well. I had a lot of motivation to do the challenge but as time progressed. I was less motivated. I switched around the days because sometimes I would do the workouts before bed. I felt like my form was improving towards the end of the week. I had already decided in the first week that I was not going to do another Chloe Ting challenge because it was very hard on my joints. In this week, I also made cookies and this lead me to stress eat because the was a lot going on at this time in my life. I fell into the detrimental mindset that it is okay to eat more now that I am exercising. I wasn’t eating the best.
Week 2
I was doing well during the second week although I started liking the program less and less. I did see some improvement with form and how long I could do the exercises for but I also felt my wrists hurting more and more. Due to scheduling, I was not home much during this week and forgot to pack proper exercises clothes. This made me want to exercise even less. I was also very lenient in terms of my diet which made the exercises harder to do. The stress of daily life also was having an effect.
Week 3
During this week, I had my period which made me not want to work out so I saved up rest days and kept my two extra rest days. Life was quite stressful during week three so I struggled to continue with the challenge. I had also gained some weight which impacted my wrists more negatively. I did not feel stronger which I attributed to the weight gain. I also had no motivation to do anything than the bare minimum due to stress. The stress also caused an increased appetite which contributed to weight gain.
Week 4
This week I felt better and did more exercises however I had come to terms in week two that I hated this exercise challenge. This decreased my motivation to make it a perfect week. My wrists had become increasingly more tender and my knees were also suffering during a lot of lunge movements. This had been apparent in the first two weeks but got worse. I suggest the weight gain and improper form lead to this. Filming my workouts each day also lead to me being less consistent because I did not always feel
Review
I hated it. It was awful and I wished it was over every time I did the workout. The exercise movements were too complex sometimes requiring a lot of balance. Most upper body exercises were tough on my wrists and there were a lot of lunge movements that hurt my knees. However, no one of these is the fault of the creator Chloe Ting. Her workouts are HIIT workouts and her videos are of excellent quality. I am sure they have worked for many people. I do have one criticism. The YouTube playlist linked on the website does not include all the videos in the program. I will never be doing a Chloe ting workout challenge again because it is not my preferred way to exercise and it is too taxing on my joints.
